Our Vision
DC learners of all ages and backgrounds are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue and thrive on the life path of their choice.
Our Mission
As DC’s state education agency, we will set high standards, build educator and system capacity to meet those standards, expand educational opportunities for all learners with a focus on those underserved and hold everyone - including ourselves - accountable for results.
OSSE’s vision for the 2026-2030 Strategic Plan is that it can serve as a foundation for the DC Graduate Profile, the collection of skills and attributes every DC learner will have.

Cross-Cutting Initiatives
In addition to these five priorities, OSSE identified three cross-cutting initiatives. These are efforts that span across priorities and help ensure that the work is coordinated, efficient, and aligned to common goals.
