High-Impact Tutoring Initiative: For Family Members and Caretakers

HIT Family Members and Caretakers Webpage Banner

OSSE’s High-Impact Tutoring (HIT) Initiative funds high-quality tutoring programs at schools and community-based sites, such as recreation centers, across the District. Use the resources below to learn more about HIT and to find out where your student can access HIT programs.

CityTutor DC: Tutoring Locations by Ward and Caregiver Toolkit
CityTutor DC received a multi-year grant award from OSSE to provide strategic supports to schools and tutoring providers to expand access to high-quality HIT programs for students across the District.

To support families and caregivers, CityTutor includes a list of known HIT locations by ward on their website. Because HIT programs are regularly expanding, please reach out to your child’s school leaders to confirm tutoring availability.

We also encourage parents and caregivers to consult CityTutor’s Caregiver Toolkit for more information about how we define HIT, to understand how HIT can benefit students, and to learn about how your student can access programs.

Free Math Tutoring Lessons:
CityTutor DC partnered with OSSE, DC Public Schools, and experienced local educators to develop math tutoring lessons for third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade students to support the implementation of high-impact tutoring (HIT) across the District. These lessons are aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), are available at no cost, and are created for the growing pool of tutors who are not trained teachers or have limited math content knowledge. Math tutor curricula for seventh and eight grade students is on the way!
