The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) has released three grants since the HIT initiative’s inception in 2021, to launch, strengthen and expand evidence-based tutoring programs in schools for DC students, with a focus on those who are designated as economically disadvantaged. The first and second grants awarded 18 tutoring providers to partner with local schools and provided tutoring to over 12,000 students.
The current grant funds HIT programs at 16 DC public and public charter school local education agencies (LEAs). The LEA grant will run through September 2025 and will reach approximately 4,500 students.

- HIT School List: This spreadsheet identifies all schools in DC that are eligible for OSSE-funded HIT supports based on their percentage of economically disadvantaged students, which must be 40 percent or more. Schools with at least 70 percent of students designated as economically disadvantaged, or schools designated as Comprehensive Support and Improvement schools, are priority schools for the HIT Initiative. For the purposes of the FY25 HIT LEA Grant, applicants can also propose HIT programs at non-eligible schools, as long as 80 percent of the students enrolled in the HIT programs are designated as economically disadvantaged.
