High-Impact Tutoring (HIT) Initiative

Overview of OSSE HIT Initiative

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is leading an initiative to accelerate academic outcomes and address long-standing opportunity gaps in student learning through high-impact tutoring (HIT). A robust body of research demonstrates that HIT is the most effective learning acceleration tool, achieving academic growth through small-group, intensive tutoring tailored to individual student needs.

OSSE will provide funding for evidence-based HIT services for students across the District during the 2025-26 school year, with a focus on those students who are furthest from opportunity. OSSE is also maximizing the quality of HIT programs by offering HIT providers and schools professional development and customized technical assistance grounded in lessons learned throughout the District’s initial three years of implementing the HIT initiative (2021-2024).

By fostering strategic partnerships and prioritizing long-term outcomes, OSSE is working to bridge opportunity gaps and create lasting improvements in student learning. This initiative remains a cornerstone of the District’s commitment to equitable education.
