Resources for Educators and Caregivers

  • The Parent Guide to Understanding the 2023 DC Science Assessment Student Score Reports: This is a resource to help families prepare for and understand the individual student reports. Available in English, Spanish, Amharic, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese (Mandarin), and French.
  • The Parent Guide to Understanding 2023 Dynamic Learning Maps Student Score Reports: This is a resource to help families prepare for and understand the individual score reports. Available in English, Spanish, Amharic, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese (Mandarin), and French.
  • Sample DC Science Assessment Student Score Report: This DC Science Assessment sample score report provides students, families, and educators with more detailed information about where a student did well or needs more support in science. Available in English, Spanish, Amharic, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese (Mandarin), and French.
  • Sample Dynamic Learning Maps Student Score Report: This DLM sample score report provides families, students, families, and educators with more detailed information about where a student did well and needs more support in science. Available in English, Spanish, Amharic, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese (Mandarin), and French.
  • Practice Tests and Tutorials: Grades 5, 8, and high school biology DC Science Assessment Practice Tests are available on the DC Pearson Portal. These resources provide opportunities for students to become familiar with and practice using the online tools, navigation, and item types.
  • Assessment Design Documents: To better understand the structure and content of the assessment, the DC Science Assessment Design and Blueprints documents provide details about the assessment claim structures, test blueprints, and details of how the DC Science Assessment is designed to measure student learning in science. DLM Assessment Design and Blueprints documents can be found on DLM’s website.
  • Performance Level Descriptors: The DC Science Assessment Performance Level Descriptor (PLD) documents outline specific expectations of student performance. The PLDs delineate and provide examples of what a typical student within a performance level would know and be able to demonstrate from a content perspective. The PLDs show a progression of multidimensional performance across performance levels aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). These documents can be useful to better understand the performance levels in the DC Science Assessment reports.
