The District of Columbia is one of few states in the nation that conducts a standardized test for health and physical education. District students are tested annually in grades 5, 8, and high school (high school students only take the test during the year they are enrolled in a health class) on their health and physical education knowledge as it pertains to OSSE’s Health Education Standards and Physical Education Standards. The assessment was put on hold for the 2014-15 school year to accommodate the transition to PARCC, and during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
