Strong Start: Resources

Strong Start has a number of programs and resources available to families, child care providers and early intervention providers looking for information on early intervention. More information is available below.

General Resources

Central Directory
The Central Directory is a “one-stop shop” with information on early intervention resources, supports and services offered in DC by both public and private entities. Click here to access the Central Directory.

Strong Start Policy Manual
The policy manual details the policies, procedures and methods used to implement the Strong Start program. Click here to access the Strong Start Policy Manual.

Resources for Families

Playgroups
Strong Start Playgroups take place regularly at DC public libraries and provide a family-centered, child-interest driven environment for children to interact with their same-age peers, while families receive information about early intervention related topics. Playgroups are facilitated by early intervention professionals, who provide families with information about their child’s development, early childhood developmental screenings, early intervention processes and community resources available to DC families. Any DC family with a child younger than age 3 can sign up to participate! Click here to learn more about Strong Start Playgroups.

Virtual Family Support Groups
Virtual family support groups offer DC families an open, secure and judgement-free setting to discuss topics related to their child’s development and early intervention. Each group meeting has minimal “agenda items” and participants drive the conversation around a set topic. Virtual family support groups also provide an opportunity for participants to connect with resources and programs available to DC families. Click here to learn more about Strong Start Virtual Family Support Groups.

Family Newsletter
Strong Start publishes a quarterly newsletter with information on early intervention topics and resources for families. Recent editions can be accessed using the links below.

Digital and Print Materials
Strong Start has created digital and print materials that child care providers can share with families to build their understanding of child development, Strong Start and other supports. Use the links below to download and print the materials.
