School Service Provider (SSP) Required Documents

Below are the required documents to submit for a Standard School Service Provider (SSP) Credential.

A. All SSP credential applications require submission of the following documents:

  1. An Identity History Summary Check (IHSC) issued by the FBI or an approved FBI channeler agency.  If employed with DCPS, make sure that their central office have made your clearance information available to OSSE electronically.
  2. Official transcripts verifying a completed bachelor’s degree.
  3. Official transcripts verifying a completed master’s degree or higher in the service area and additional specific coursework required for the school service provider area.

(*Applicants with degrees and coursework from institutions outside of the US must submit a foreign credential evaluation report issued by an approved evaluation agency.); and

  1. A program completion verification form confirming completion of an approved educator licensure program in the applicable school service provider area (if applicable).

B. In addition to the documents listed above, the following must be submitted:

Reading Specialist

  • An experience verification form verifying one year of full-time experience as a reading specialist or two years of full-time teaching experience or has successfully completed all practicum experience as part of the reading specialist program (practicum experience shall be indicated on your transcript).
  • Passing test scores for the DC-required reading specialist exam or a comparable exam passed in another state where you an active full credential.
  • A copy of your active full reading specialist credential held in another state (required when submitting test scores passed for another state).

School Librarian

  • An experience verification form verifying one year of experience as a school librarian or two years of full-time teaching experience or directed field experience as part of the school library program (field experience shall be indicated on your transcript).
  • Passing test scores for the DC-required school library media specialist content exam or comparable exam passed in another state where you an active full credential.
  • A copy of your active full school librarian credential held in another state (required when submitting test scores passed for another state).

School Audiologist

  • An experience verification form verifying one year of full-time employment as a school audiologist or has successfully completed at least 350 hours of supervised field, practicum or internship experience as part of the graduate degree program (field practicum experience shall be indicated on your transcript).

School Counselor

  • An experience verification form verifying one year of full-time employment as a school counselor OR two years of full-time teaching experience OR has successfully completed at least 300 hours of supervised school-based field, practicum or internship experience as part of the degree program (practicum experience shall be indicated on your transcript).

The field experience may also be met by completion of a degree in school counseling from a program approved by Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Program (CACREP) or holds a valid National Certified Counselors (NCC) credential issued by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).

  • Passing test scores for the DC-required school counselor content exam or comparable exam passed in another state where you an active full credential.
  • A copy of your active full school counselor credential held in another state (required when submitting test scores passed for another state).

School Social Worker

  • An experience verification form verifying one year of full-time employment as a school social worker or one year of paid professional experience (post master’s degree) in a setting providing direct services to individuals and groups of school age children and their families or has successfully completed all field practicum experience as part of the “school” social worker degree program (practicum experience shall be indicated on your transcript).
  • A copy of a valid license to practice social work in the District of Columbia issued by the DC Department of Health, Board of Social Work. The license must be above an associate’s level.

School Speech Language Pathologist

  • An experience verification form verifying one year of full-time employment as a school audiologist or has successfully completed at least 350 hours of supervised field, practicum or internship experience as part of the graduate degree program (field practicum experience shall be indicated on your transcript).

School Psychologist

  • An experience verification form verifying one year of full-time employment as a school psychologist or at least 500 hours of supervised field practicum or internship experience in a school setting under the supervision of a certified school psychologist.
  • Passing test scores for the DC-required school counselor content exam or comparable exam passed in another state where you an active full credential.
