OSSE Statement on Citizenship Requirements for HHS Funded Afterschool Programs

WASHINGTON, DC – The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) today issued the following statement:

“As State Education Agency for the District of Columbia, OSSE remains dedicated to providing service and support for District children of all ethnic backgrounds and nationalities.

This morning, a press release entitled Citizenship Requirements for [District of Columbia Public Schools] DCPS Afterschool Programs was distributed that contained several statements that we must clarify.

UPDATE: OSSE Student Transportation Services to Resume on Thursday, July 5th

Washington, DC – To coincide with the re-opening of summer school and other community-based programs while recovering from the District of Columbia’s declared state of emergency, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will resume regularly scheduled student bus transportation services for all children enrolled in public and non-public placements, participating summer programs or in other jurisdictions – on Thursday, July 5th.

OSSE Student Transportation Services Suspended for Tuesday, July 3rd

Washington, DC – In response to the District of Columbia’s declared state of emergency, widespread power outages and closing of summer school and other community-based programs, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) has suspended student bus transportation services – including transportation of children enrolled in non-public placements , summer programs or in other jurisdictions – for Tuesday, July 3rd.

Emergency Update: Free Summer Meals Program Sites Open for DC Children to Age 18

Washington, DC – In response to the District of Columbia’s declared state of emergency, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) has posted a listing of citywide Free Summer Meals Program (FSMP) sites open to serve up to two meals a day to District infants and children up to age 18 or with disabilities.

Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Education Officials and Student-Athletes Launch DC Statewide Athletic Association
