The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA) provides national leadership to help ensure that English learners and immigrant students attain English proficiency and achieve academic success.

DC Water, DC Greens, and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s School Gardens Program distributes planting material and compost to school garden coordinators for use in District school gardens throughout the growing season.

Institutions that wish to change or add locations must submit for approval the following Request for New/Additional Location to the Higher Education Licensure Commission.

Parents of English language learners (ELLs) are disadvantaged when helping their children in school because they often do not speak English. Many immigrant parents desire to learn English, yet research shows adult English programs have high attrition rates.

Special education points of contact (POCs) who complete the items in the attached document will assist their LEAs in preparing to serve incoming students with disabilities (SWDs) and ensure that both staff and students experience a great start to for the 2020-21 school year.

An updated checklist for school test coordinators to use as a guide in their preparation for testing is now available. The checklist has been updated from last year's version to reflect new test design (e.g. single test window) and new links to 2016 resources.

This is a resource for providers serving families with children and youth with special health care needs to help them know and understand the complex array of services and supports within the DC system.
