Washington, DC – Today the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education (DC OSSE) released a revised version of its application to the U.S. Department of Education (ED) requesting relief from the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) –commonly known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB).

Washington, DC–Every year the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) contracts an independent auditor to conduct an annual student enrollment audit in DC. As part of the audit, the independent auditor reports the number of students whose residency could not be verified at the time of the audit. Specifically, the report identifies non-resident students enrolled in DC Public Schools (DCPS), Public Charter Schools (PCS) and Non-Publics (private special education schools or programs).
WASHINGTON, DC – District of Columbia 8th Grade students scored lower than national averages in science-based subject matter achievement in 2011, according to The Nation’s Report Card, a biennial report released today by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). Results are statewide and represent both District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) and District public charter schools.
WASHINGTON, DC – The Office of the State Superintendent OSSE DSE announced 2012 Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) Contract Awards. As part of the Federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), District schools are required to ensure that, to the maximum extent appropriate, students with disabilities are educated with students who are non-disabled.

WASHINGTON, DC –The District of Columbia earned high marks exceeding national norms for its early childhood funding, Pre-Kindergarten and Head Start Programs, state-funded universal preschool access and alignment with common core standards of early childhood learning, according to The State of Preschool 2011, an annual report released by the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER).
WASHINGTON, DC –District of Columbia High School Students graduated in 2010-2011 at a percentage higher than originally reported under revised U.S. Department of Education criteria, according to results released today by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). Results are statewide and represent D.C. Public Schools (DCPS) and Public Charter Schools.
