DC State Board of Education Reviews Graduation Requirements

Friday, April 13, 2012
Reviews the Senior Thesis as a Graduation Requirement

Contact: Agnes Moss Lurry; 202-741-0884

The District of Columba State Board of Education (DCSBOE) will hold a public meeting to discuss whether to require a senior thesis or culminating project for high school graduation. A clarification of graduation requirements eliminated a stand-alone capstone senior research thesis from DCMR Title 5, Chapter 22, Section 2203 in May 2011.  In reviewing current graduation requirements, the State Board is considering the reinstatement of the senior thesis. All education stakeholders, students, parents, and educators are invited to provide comment.

The public meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at 441 4th Street, NW, in the Old Council Chambers, located on the lobby level of the building.

Individuals who wish to comment at the meeting are required to notify the staff in advance by contacting the Office of the DC State Board of Education by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by e-mail at [email protected].  Please provide one electronic copy in advance and bring fifteen copies to the hearing for the State Board members to view.

The meeting will air live on District Knowledge Network (DKN) Comcast Channel 99, RCN Channel 18, and Fios Channel 12.
