The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (Perkins IV) calls upon states to create sequences of academic and career and technical education (CTE) coursework to help students attain a postsecondary degree or industry-recognized certificate or credential.
In the District of Columbia, approval of a CTE course or POS approval will be a eligibility threshold for local education agency (LEA) and postsecondary institutions to access Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Improvement Act of 2006 (Perkins) federal funds.

CTE performance reports include data on: academic achievement, occupational competence, completion and graduation performance, nontraditional career preparation, and successful transition to careers and/or further education.
