The DC School Report Card provides detailed information about each school and local education agency (LEA) in the District; you can read more about the DC School Report Card in one of two previous blog posts (here and here). Each school page has a School Profile section that contains information about “School Programs,” which offer information about course offerings, programs, and extracurricular and enrichment activities at the school.

Starting with the 2026 DC School Report Card, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will make changes to the “School Programs” section. These changes are meant to provide clearer, more accurate information to the public. The section will be re-organized to three sub-sections: School Course Offerings, School Characteristics, and Extracurricular and Enrichment Activities. While in the past most of this data has been self-reported by LEAs, OSSE will now change the source to existing data collections. For example, instead of relying on LEA self-reported data about whether or not the school offers International Baccalaureate (IB) courses, OSSE will use data from the Course Data Collection to determine if the school has reported IB courses in their Course Catalog.

This will also streamline the process for LEAs. To date, LEAs have had to separately enter data into an online submission tool called eSchoolPlus. This new process will remove the need for LEAs to do that in the places where OSSE can collect – and is essentially already collecting – the data from another source.

The table below shows the definition for each data element that could be listed on a school’s profile page under the new “School Programs” section. We are excited to share this great info with parents and families when we publish the DC School Report Card in December!

School Course Offerings

• Advanced Placement: The school offers courses approved by the College Board for AP designation. Students that take the AP exam and pass can earn college credit.
• Career and Technical Education: The school offers CTE courses that focus on the skills and knowledge required for specific jobs or fields of work; this includes but is not limited to courses offered under OSSE-approved/Perkins-funded CTE program, and ATC courses.
• Dual College Enrollment: The school offers its students the opportunity to maintain their high school status while enrolling part-time or full-time at participating colleges or universities.
• Dual Language/Immersion: The school offers courses where instruction is provided in a Language Other Than English (LOTE) for a portion class time. Instruction in LOTE is intended to teach a specific subject other than the LOTE.
• International Baccalaureate (IB): The school is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the IB Primary Years, Middle Years, or Diploma Program(s), or is an active candidate for such authorization.
• Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC): The school offers courses that are a part of the JROTC program.

School Characteristics

• Montessori: The school offers courses in the Montessori method of education.
• Selective Program: The school admits students based on specific criteria or eligibility requirements; only DC Public Schools (DCPS) is able to operate an application school.
• Blended Learning: The school offers core instruction to students from a mix of teacher-led instruction and online-learning platforms as part of the school's academic curriculum.
• Extended Day: The school extends the traditional school day on a regular basis to provide instruction and learning time for longer than eight hours per day.
• Restorative Justice Program: The school disciplinary policy cites restorative practices and it systematically uses restorative practices and processes in classrooms, throughout the school, and during family meetings
• School Uniform: The school requires that students wear a school uniform.
• Single-Gender Campus: The school’s enrollment targets a single gender.
• Extended Calendar: The school extends the traditional school year beyond the typical 180 school days to provide additional instructional and learning time; students attend for at least 190 school days.
• Extracurriculars & Enrichment Activities (as self-reported by LEA): The school offers the following list of general extracurriculars and enrichment activities not captured in the other fields on School Programs and School Characteristics.

Extracurricular and Enrichment Activities

• Interscholastic Sports: The school is a member of the DC State Athletic Association (DCSAA) and has at least one middle and/or high school sports team that competes with other schools. Does not include elementary school-level interscholastic sports.
• School Garden: School has outdoor spaces that engage students through hands-on lessons that enhance learning (per LEA reporting for the Healthy Schools Act and School Health Profiles).
