Overall Results
- In 2019, the average score of eighth-grade students in District of Columbia was 269. This was lower than the average score of 274 for students in large cities.
- The average score for students in District of Columbia in 2019 (269) was higher than their average score in 2017 (262) and in 2003 (243).
- The percentage of students in District of Columbia who performed at or above the NAEP Proficient level was 24 percent in 2019. This percentage was higher than that in 2017 (20 percent) and in 2003 (6 percent).
- The percentage of students in District of Columbia who performed at or above the NAEP Basic level was 53 percent in 2019. This percentage was higher than that in 2017 (47 percent) and in 2003 (29 percent).
