Report Card 2020

Message from the Interim Superintendent

Shana YoungDespite the unprecedented challenge of coronavirus (COVID-19), the District of Columbia remains committed to providing the DC education community with high-quality information and performance data about our schools. Over the last four years, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) has built a DC School Report Card that shares all comparable school data in one easy-to-use platform. The response from the education community has been encouraging and enthusiastic, with thousands of families, educators, and policymakers accessing the site every month.

However, the DC School Report Card will be different this year due to COVID-19. The city responded to the pandemic, in part, by asking for and receiving waivers from the US Department of Education to cancel both state assessments and accountability ratings for the 2019-20 school year. Therefore, the DC School Report Card will not feature many of the data that you are used to seeing such as student performance data or overall School Transparency and Reporting (STAR) ratings. The following data, however, will be updated:

Updated Data Elements for the 2020 DC School Report Card
School Profile
  • School Profile Page Data: Data current for the 2020-21 school year (e.g. principal name, school address, message from the school, parent organization)
  • Enrollment for the 2019-20 school year
  • School finance data from the 2019-20 school year
Academic Performance
  • Graduation rates: four- and five-year Adjusted Cohort Graduation rates
  • College enrollment rates – Class of 2018 and Class of 2019
School Environment
  • Teacher and School Leader data
  • Health Staff data

We believe this data, although limited, is still useful and remain determined to provide as much data as we can, every year. OSSE looks forward to continuing our ongoing work with parents, students, educators, and policymakers to improve and expand the DC School Report Card in the years ahead.

Thank you,
Shana Young
