The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is the State Education Agency for the District of Columbia charged with raising the quality of education for all DC residents. There are five teams within OSSE Human Resources (HR); Recruitment, Employee Relations, Payroll, Employee Experience, and Compliance. The employee relations team is seeking a dynamic and motivated Human Resource Assistant to join their team and help support OSSE’s mission and vision.
The Human Resources Assistant (Employee Relations Assistant) assists the Employee Relations (ER) dept. with employee-related matters for the agency and the D.C. Department of Human Resources. The ER Assistant work involves providing guidance to staff on local and federal regulations. Providing administration support to the ER Team through performing a variety of duties which includes, but is not limited to, researching, and analyzing materials for inclusion in reports, data management, record keeping, etc. Supports agency staff by assisting with the processing of Employee Relations request and inquires.
Specific functions include:
- Serves as the point of contact for ER related inquires within the agency.
- Analyzing and evaluating administrative procedures, functions, controls, and systems for OSSE.
- Assisting with the development of various forms, statistical reports, and narrative reports requested by agency management and DCHR.
- Ensuring requests for personnel actions are tracked appropriately to include aiding with the maintenance of various HR reports and job aids.
- Responding, in writing or verbally, to written and oral requests for information from constituents, peers, employees, and other District and Federal agencies.
- Attending meetings and participating, as needed, by making presentations and providing background information.
- Identifying, analyzing, and evaluating problems to improve organizational structure, which includes developing and presenting recommendations and options to avoid or resolve problems.
- Supporting the standardization of operating procedures.
Key qualifications for the role include:
- Knowledge of general administrative principles, practices, and techniques.
- Ability to adapt quickly and easily to changing regulations, procedures, and policies.
- Ability to perform tasks which require meticulous attention details with minimal instruction. Ability to establish and maintain effective personal working relationships.
- Experience with database management is preferred, but not required.
