Education Research Analyst

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is the State Education Agency for the District of Columbia charged with raising the quality of education for all DC residents. OSSE is focused on sustaining, accelerating, and deepening the progress being made for the District’s 90,000+ students. OSSE serves as the District’s liaison to the U.S. Department of Education and works closely with the District’s 470+ early childhood facilities, 250+ schools, 60+ local education agencies (including DCPS and charter organizations), and community-based organizations to provide critical programming and resources to our stakeholders. 

The Education Research Analyst will be responsible for supporting the implementation of Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE)/Division of Early Learning (DEL) Quality Initiatives Unit quality improvement research-based projects.  

The job tasks will include providing staffing support for research analysis, convening research and data analysis activities, including but not limited to conducting/analyzing surveys and collecting data and information from the education community, grant recipients and early childhood initiatives/programs. As well as, researching education issues to develop internal and external informational and presentation materials, and completing all necessary tasks and projects related to the development of presentations. 

Specific functions of the Education Research Analyst include: 

  • Conduct reviews and analysis of all data and program services related to Division of Early Learning grants and programs 
  • Support secondary and primary data analysis. 
  • Study best practices and innovations in other jurisdictions, facilitating working group meetings, development process and procedures and providing recommendations to achieve program goals. 
  • Independently plan and conduct in-depth studies and provide reliable solutions, after evaluating the impact of early learning programs.  
  • Compile/arrange data in standard formats for projects or reports and provide reports regularly to the relevant program staff. 

Key qualifications for the role include: 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of initiatives that aim to enhance the quality of early care and education programs and other early childhood quality initiatives, requirements of other related Federal laws and District laws and regulations affecting early childhood care and education. 
  • Knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies and procedures as they relate to the mission of the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). 
  • Comprehensive level of knowledge of the full range of applicable federal statutes, codes and procedures that govern early childhood care and education. 
  • Skills in effectively presenting information, findings, and recommendations in written and oral form are highly recommended for this position. Ability to analyze, summarize, and report on quantitative and qualitative data. 

Our ideal candidate will also have: 

  • A master’s degree or higher in a relevant field with experience in qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
