District of Columbia Releases Findings of 2012 One City Summer Initiative

In 2011, Mayor Gray instituted a cross-agency approach to summer programming. Safety and structure for children, youth, and families were hallmarks of this effort. Building on 2011, the 2012 One City Summer Initiative (OCSI) more clearly defined the city’s approach to providing meaningful, safe, and engaging summer experiences for more than 40,227 youth, particularly the 8,099 who attended programs located in high-crime, target neighborhoods.

District of Columbia, OSSE Award $500,000 Student Growth Grant

WASHINGTON, DC – A consortium of District public charter schools will receive nearly $500,000 to develop rigorous models for measuring student growth through the 2012 Race to the Top Expanded Growth Assessment grant, an award announced today by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE).
Mayor Gray and OSSE Announce First-Ever D.C. College Fund

Gray announced today that, starting this fall, D.C. students will have the opportunity to receive need-based financial support from the city government while attending colleges and universities in the District. The grants come through the inaugural Mayor’s Scholars Fund, announced at Trinity Washington University today by Mayor Gray and representatives from the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE).
