The responses of students with disabilities (SD) and English language learners (ELL) on NAEP assessments represent those of hundreds of other similar students. Without their participation, information about how to best meet the educational needs of SD and ELL students would be lost. NAEP incorporates inclusive policies and practices into every aspect of the assessment, including selection of students, participation in the assessment administration, and valid and effective accommodations. This is essential to ensuring an assessment that yields meaningful NAEP results for all students.
NAEP accommodations are only allowed for students on an Individualized Education Program (IEP), students that have a Section 504 Plan, or students identified as English Language Learners (ELL). Specific accommodations will be provided through the test delivery system for students taking the assessment this year on tablets. Additional accommodations will be provided outside the test delivery system. Universal design (UD) elements will be available to all students taking the assessment on tablets. Inclusion guidelines outline the available accommodations by subject and test mode for SD and ELL students.
