Are you looking for better ways to support and advocate for your students? This advanced training will help educators learn new skills and strategies to advocate with LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer) youth in schools. In this 2-hour workshop, participants will dive deeper into the specific challenges and barriers that exist in supporting LGBTQ+ youth, and effective strategies for practicing allyship in schools. Attendees will explore the following topics:
- LGBTQ Terminology, a Refresher
- Allyship and advocacy with LGBTQ+ Youth
- Understanding the Youth-Led, Adult-Supported Advocacy Model
- Action Steps to Support LGBTQ+ Youth
The workshop is intended for educators, school administrators, social workers, and counselors serving in public and public charter schools in the District of Columbia who have basic fluency with LGBTQ+ terminology and allyship. Participants will earn two professional learning units (PLUs) for full attendance.
