OSSE is pleased to announce that registration is now open for its first school year 2015-16 LEA Institute, “It Takes a City to Support School Excellence!,” to be held on Nov. 18, 2015 at the Charles Sumner School Museum. This event is targeted to schools classified as Priority or Focus under the DC Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Flexibility Waiver. Other schools may apply to attend, but preference will be provided to school teams from Priority and Focus schools.

Participants will have an opportunity to learn about the following topics during the Institute:

  • Conducting high quality needs assessments to unmask the root causes for underperformance
  • Developing effective strategic plans for school improvement
  • Implementing researched-based practices for closing the achievement gap
  • Establishing routines to monitor progress toward school goals

Members of school leadership teams are strongly encouraged to attend, including school principals and assistant principals. School teams may also include other school administrators, instructional leaders, teacher leaders, and parents. Schools that participate in OSSE’s Learning Support Network and School Improvement Grant programs are required to send a school team. Additionally, LEA staff who support school improvement activities in Priority and Focus schools are encouraged to attend.

Participants will receive OSSE Professional Learning Units (PLUs) for workshop attendance.

Register today! School teams are strongly encouraged to register no later than Oct. 28, 2015 to ensure that adequate space is available for all participants.
