Welcome to our new blog about DC education data! We are excited to share more about what we collect, report and learn. We want to nerd out about data in a friendly way that brings more people into the conversation. We hope that every post teaches you something new.
For those of you who don’t know, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is the state education agency for the District of Columbia – meaning that the Department of Education already treats us like a state. This means we have a number of federal data reporting requirements, DC-specific reporting requirements and data that we just want to share with you. We are publishing more data every year, which is great but also can be overwhelming. For example, did you know that the DC School Report Card Excel files have more than a million cells of data? One file is too large to host directly on a government website. We are literally busting at the seams with data.
In this space, we hope to provide welcoming entry points to different DC education data. We will publish regularly, so please watch this space!
