The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is excited to announce the roll-out of the State-Level Education Strategic Plan—a five-year guide for the OSSE’s work as DC’s newly formed state education agency.
The plan’s implementation began October 1, the same day that the OSSE observed its one-year anniversary. The OSSE was created under the Public Education Reform Amendment Act of 2007.
This dynamic strategic plan embodies the OSSE’s mission and core beliefs and is aligned with core elements of the Mayor’s Interagency Collaboration and Services Integration Commission (ICSIC). The plan, which will be implemented in Fiscal Years 2009-2013, details three overarching goals with measurable objectives and outcomes for each one:
- All District of Columbia children will be ready for school;
- All District of Columbia students will receive an excellent k-12 public education that prepares them for success in college and careers; and
- All District of Columbia residents will be successful in college and the 21st century economy.
The plan was developed through an intensive, collaborative process that spanned several months, which included a thorough review of legislated responsibilities, best practices, and challenges in the District. During its development, the plan was distributed widely for feedback from government, industry, the higher education community, and early learning and k-12 experts and stakeholders.
As a state-level plan, it encompasses the work of both the OSSE and the DC State Board of Education (DCSBOE).
The State-Level Education Strategic Plan can be viewed on the OSSE’s website, at osse.dc.gov.
