OSSE Invites Post-Baccalaureate Non-Degree Educator Preparation Providers to Seek State Accreditation

Wednesday, March 3, 2010
Eligible educator preparation organizations, institutions, and agencies are invited to submit an application to seek State-accreditation and program approval

OSSE is pleased to announce the release the 2009-2010 Application for State Accreditation of Post-Baccalaureate Non-Degree Educator Preparation Providers. We invite eligible educator preparation organizations, institutions and agencies to submit an application to seek State-accreditation and program approval.

State program approval assures the public that the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) of the District of Columbia has examined the quality of programs preparing teachers and other school personnel for the District of Columbia’s classrooms, to determine whether they meet the state’s standards for entry into the profession. Accreditation of the institution, agency or organization seeking state approval for its professional education programs is required for delivery of educator preparation programs that lead to state licensure.

This application will be limited to applicants seeking to offer post-baccalaureate educator preparation programs to individuals seeking roles as teachers and administrators in DC schools. Individuals who complete state-approved teacher and administrator preparation programs are eligible to seek licensure to practice in the District of Columbia.

For more information—including information about the educator preparation program standards, the application review process and timeline, as well as OSSE’s expectations regarding development and submission of the application and related documents—please contact Orman Feres, accreditation coordinator, at (202) 741-5218 or by email at [email protected].

OSSE Holds Application Conference and Question-and-Answer Session For Prospective Applicants, March 17th, 2010, 1:30pm – 3:30 pm, 810 First Street, NE 5th Floor
This is a mandatory meeting for applicants seeking accreditation and program approval during the 2009-2010 cycle.
