The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC) are partnering to host the Greater Washington National College Fair Monday, September 29, 2008, at the Walter Washington Convention Center.
The fair is one of several activities held in the District during College Awareness Month, announced today at a press conference. The fair is the largest college fair to be held in the Washington, DC metropolitan area where more than 4,000 students from DC public schools, DC public charter schools, as well as Richmond and Baltimore, are expected to attend. Recruiters from approximately 300 universities and colleges will also be in attendance.
“We want students to take full advantage of the valuable information that will be available at the Greater Washington National College Fair, including how to get ready for college and financial aid. This fair is an important step for students who want to be prepared to successfully compete in the 21st-century workforce,” said State Superintendent Deborah A. Gist.
Workshops will cover topics such as financial aid, preparing for college and understanding the NCAA requirements for student athletes, and how parents can ready their students for the college experience. In addition, scholarship and nonprofit organizations will be available to offer information on the SAT/ACT preparation, as well as financial aid and the financial aid application process.
The fair will be held September 29, 2008, at the Walter Washington Convention Center (Metro Green Line: Mt. Vernon Square, 7th and Mt. Vernon Place NW.) The hours are 9 am-noon, 1:30 pm-4:30 pm and 6 pm-8 pm.
Free and open to the public, the fair will allow students to interact with admission representatives from a wide range of colleges and universities nationwide. Students will have an opportunity to discuss course offerings, admission and financial aid requirements, and other information pertinent to the college selection process.
