The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will host the 2023 Adult College and Credentials Fair in-person this year on Saturday, June 24, 2023, to provide adult learners a free opportunity to connect with resources and supports available to help earn a college degree or postsecondary credential.
“A fair like this is critical when it comes to helping District residents align the trajectory of their postsecondary paths with their goals and aspirations,” said State Superintendent Dr. Christina Grant. “For most individuals, a credential or degree is an essential part of succeeding in the current and future workforce and economy, and this fair aims to ensure residents of the District of Columbia have the resources and supports they need for success."
DC’s recent job outlook through 2028, reveals that 45 of the top 50 high-demand, high-wage careers require at least an associate degree level of education or training.
The Adult College and Credentials Fair, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the National Union Building, 918 F St NW, is open to DC residents 18 years of age and older who are interested in going to college or earning a postsecondary credential. The event provides opportunities for attendees to explore college and career interests, discover adult-friendly postsecondary options and find ways to pay for their education. Attendees can also meet with enrollment representatives to complete degree audits and transcript reviews. Resources specifically targeted to early childhood educators who need to earn their associate degree will also be available.
More than two dozen colleges, universities and related programs will attend the 2023 Adult College and Credentials Fair. A complete list of participating organizations is available at bit.ly/ACCFair2023. The fair will also feature the Fresh Start Initiative program which provides the opportunity for those adult learners who currently have student loan debt or are in default to learn more about how to get back on track financially. Fresh Start allows borrowers with eligible defaulted federal student loans to apply for federal student aid so that they may complete their degree.
Organizations interested in participating can reach out to Gregory Palmer at [email protected].
