OSSE Extends the Public Comment Period for the Proposed Extended School Year Services and Special Education Transportation Services Policies

Friday, January 7, 2011
OSSE posts proposed Extended School Year Services and Special Education Transportation Services policies for public comment

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education has posted for public comment two proposed policies entitled Extended School Year Services Policy and Special Education Transportation Services Policy. The Division of Special Education (DSE) will host a third public hearing on these proposed policies on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, to hear testimony on the proposed policies. The proposed policies establish state-level standards and criteria for extended school year (ESY) and special education transportation services that are consistent with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requirement to provide a free appropriate public education (FAPE) to all students with disabilities.

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) expects that all local educational agencies (LEAs) implement this policy to support Individualized Education Program (IEP) Teams in making appropriate ESY and transportation eligibility determinations and service designations.

The extended comment period begins Friday, January 7, 2011, and concludes at 5 pm on Monday, February 7, 2011.
