The OSSE is pleased to provide a Request for Application (RFA) for CACFP participating child care food service provider centers and family day care home providers. The application is due by 4 pm September 30, 2008. 

Twelve (12) applicants will be awarded mini-grants that are not to exceed $5,000 each. The mini-grants have been funded as a part of the “2007 Team Nutrition Training Grant” for the District of Columbia by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) (www.fns.usda.gov, 2008). The applicant’s programs must include the promotion of team nutrition messages which are:

• Eat a variety of foods;
• Eat more fruits and vegetables and whole grains;
• Eat lower fat foods more often;
• Get your calcium-rich foods; and
• Be physically active.

Applications should focus on nutrition education for pre-school children and/or their families that will include food demonstrations. The demonstrations will be provided by the assistance of a team nutrition chef or registered dietitian/licensed nutritionist. The” Letter of Intent” (Attachment G) can be faxed, emailed, or post-marked no later than 4 pm Friday, September 19, 2008.
