(WASHINGTON, DC) – The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) announced the 22 District traditional public and public charter schools selected to receive grants for the 2014-15 school year through the DC Physical Activity for Youth (DC PAY) Grant program, an initiative of the D.C. Healthy Schools Act. Collectively, $220,000 in grant funds will be distributed across all eight Wards to facilitate and increase the capacity of D.C. public schools to provide physical activity to students before, during, or after the school day.

This year’s recipients of the DC PAY Grant, representing both District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) and District Public Charter Schools (PCS), will pilot programs that include teaching students swimming during the summer, afterschool running clubs, instituting structure to recess activities, and dance classes.

All grantees are required to establish, if not already created, a Wellness Advisory Board that meets four times a year and a physical activity coordinator (PAC) position, which will oversee the grant.
