The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) Releases Draft of Proposed Truancy Regulations

Thursday, September 18, 2008
Public Comment Period Ends Monday, October 27

The District of Columbia State Board of Education held its regularly scheduled public meeting Wednesday, September 17, 2008.  At the meeting, the State Board received a presentation on the proposed statewide regulations for truancy.

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) has drafted a set of proposed truancy regulations that will apply to all D.C. Public Schools and public charter schools in the District of Columbia.  The proposed regulations define valid excused absences and implement reporting requirements for the local education agencies (LEAs).  The proposed regulations would require each LEA to establish in each of its schools a specific framework or process that focuses on academic and behavioral intervention.

Public comments will be accepted until Monday, October 27, 2008.  Members of the public may send comments or testimony to Beverley Wheeler at (202) 741-0884 or [email protected] .
