New Application Process Created for the Education Licensure Commission (ELC)

Friday, September 1, 2006
A two-hour mandatory training is required prior to submitting an application to start a new institution

(Washington, DC) The State Education Office (SEO), Education Licensure Commission announces new applications and a new process for initial licensees. The Education Licensure Commission is responsible for issuing licenses to operate post-secondary educational institutions in the District of Columbia. The ELC is governed by 5 Mayoral appointees who are supported by SEO staff to implement the policies.

The two new applications are the Application for Initial License to Operate a Post-secondary Educational Institution and the Application for Renewal, Conversion, or Amendment of License. These applications have been redesigned to enhance the overall processing component of the ELC office. The new forms alleviate duplications, decrease user errors, and improve data collection abilities.

Effective September 2006 anyone interested in submitting an application to start a new institution, must attend a two hour mandatory training prior to application submission. The trainings will occur monthly at the SEO. Registration is required. Following the completion of the training the application can be submitted for processing and subsequent presentation to the Commission for a decision.
