Mayor Bowser to Highlight Early Childhood Education Initiatives, Celebrate First Step CDA Program

Wednesday, July 12, 2017

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Thursday, July 13, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will highlight the Administration’s efforts to ensure high-quality child care education to prepare early childhood professionals in the District. The Mayor will also recognize the first graduating class of First Step, a program for high school students to earn their Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate while completing their high school graduation requirements. An innovative partnership between the Office of State Superintendent of Education and Marion Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP), the First Step program provide students with paid work experience in a child care environment that is required to be eligible for a CDA license.
