Annual Public School Fair to be Held Across Two Weekends: Saturday, December 2 for Pre-K3-Grade 8 and Saturday, December 9 for Grades 9-12

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of the State Superintendent for Education (OSSE) are encouraging families to register for EdFEST, DC’s annual public school fair that provide DC families an opportunity to meet with representatives from and learn about public schools in DC. This year, EdFEST will span two events. On Saturday, December 2, families with students entering PreK3–Grade 8 can attend EdFEST at the DC Armory from 10 am to 1 pm. Then, on Saturday, December 9, families with students entering Grades 9–12 can attend EdFEST at Eastern High School from 10 am to 1 pm.

“We know that when it comes time to choose your child’s school, families want to be informed and they want opportunities to meet with and talk to people who know the school,” said Mayor Bowser. “EdFEST is a unique and important opportunity for families to get to know the people behind our amazing school communities. It is an opportunity to share information about your child, hear from schools, and make the best choice for your family.”

More than 220 DC Public Schools and public charter schools will be represented across the two events. Families will have the opportunity to ask questions in person about academics, extracurricular activities, and other services provided at each school. The goal of EdFEST is to support families in making the best school choice for their child and family.

Families can also learn more about the upcoming My School DC lottery which opens on Monday, December 11. My School DC will have staff and Parent Advisory Council members available to answer questions about the school lottery process.

“EdFEST is a celebration of the incredible public and public charter school options in the District,” said State Superintendent Dr. Christina Grant. “We encourage families to take full advantage of these opportunities to access school information, immunizations and much more.”

Flu and COVID-19 vaccinations for adults and free immunizations for youth will also be available on both December 2 and December 9. Additionally, on Saturday, December 2, EdFEST will also feature free meals for kids provided by DC Central Kitchen.

Admission to EdFEST is free, and interpretation services are available in Spanish (Español), Amharic (አማርኛ፤), French (Français), Chinese (中文), Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt), and American Sign Language (ASL).

Registration for EdFEST is required. For more information and to register, visit myschooldc.org/events/edfest.

Families who need support registering for EdFEST or navigating the lottery process are encouraged to call the My School DC hotline at (202) 888-6336, Monday–Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. On social media, use #EdFEST22 and tag @MySchoolDC before and during the event.
