Deadline Extended: Pre-kindergarten Program Assistance Grant Applications

Tuesday, June 14, 2011
The Office of the State Superintendent of Education, Division of Early Childhood Education has extended the deadline for submission of Pre-k Program Assistance Grant applications to June 22, 2011

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education, Division of Early Childhood Education has extended the deadline for submission of Pre-k Program Assistance Grant applications to June 22, 2011. The solicitation is open to all District of Columbia Public Schools, Public Charter Schools and early childhood education programs operated by non-profit entities, faith-based organizations, or organizations that participate in federally funded or District funded early childhood programs, including the child care subsidy program funded by the federal Child Care Development Fund.

The District of Columbia Pre-k Enhancement and Expansion Amendment Act of 2008 requires that by September 1, 2014 all existing and incoming Pre-k programs be accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting body approved by OSSE.  This round of Pre-kindergarten Program Assistance Grants is intended to address this charge by providing financial assistance to programs in DC Public Schools, DC Public Charter Schools, and community-based organizations pursuing accreditation or re-accreditation. The Program Assistance Grants support activities that lead to accreditation or re-accreditation including:

  • Accreditation fees
  • Training and/or consultation;
  • Instructional support and materials;
  • Age-appropriate curriculum and related training;
  • Capital facilities improvement (in an amount not to exceed twenty-five (25%) of the total grant award); and
  • Support for development of family engagement programs.

The Pre-k Program Assistance Grants will be available beginning July 15, 2011. Each grant is awarded for two (2) years. The individual grant amounts will be up to $25,000.  The grant program will be based on funding availability. For more information, please contact:
