The DC State Board of Education (DCSBOE) will hold a joint public hearing with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) to review the proposed common core college and career readiness standards.
The hearing will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 5:30 pm at 441 4th Street, NW, in the District of Columbia State Board of Education Chambers, located on the lobby level of the building.
This state-led proposal, coordinated by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center), aims to create a common core state standards. The proposed draft of the college- and career-readiness standards in English-language arts and mathematics intend to establish what students should know to succeed in college courses and in the workforce. The initiative is led by governors and chief state school officers in 51 states and territories.
Please review the latest standards DCSBOE and OSSE believe that the use of the common core college and career readiness standards and engaging the community will result in a strong and united entity that will combine the knowledge of many education stakeholders including parents, local education agencies, business people, community organizations and renowned leaders in the education field among others. It will incorporate international and national practices to improve education for America’s children.
