OSSE IDEA Part B and C Child Count - Comparative Data Summary: 2009 - 2012

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Every year, in accordance with requirements set forth in Federal and local law, OSSE's Division of Special Education conducts an analysis with Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to create an unduplicated count of District students who qualify for services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) (commonly referred to as "child count"). This count is submitted annually to the United States Department of Education's (USDE's) Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and is also necessary to support the annual allocation of IDEA funds to the District.

The attached summary provides a snapshot of the District's child count data between 2009 and 2012.  It provides an analysis of both Part B (3 through 21) and Part C (birth through 2) across a number of variables.
