- In 2022, the average score of students in the District of Columbia was 224. This was lower than the average score of 227 for students in large cities.
- The average score for students in the District of Columbia in 2022 (224) was lower than their scores in 2019 (235) but higher than their scores in 2002 (205).
- The percentage of students in the District of Columbia who performed at or above the NAEP Proficient level was 27 percent in 2022. This percentage was lower than that in 2019 (36 percent) but higher than that in 2002 (7 percent).
- The percentage of students in the District of Columbia who performed at or above the NAEP Basic level was 58 percent in 2022. This percentage was smaller than that in 2019 (73 percent) but higher than that in 2002 (36 percent)
