Overall Results
- In 2022, the average score of fourth-grade students in the District of Columbia was 260. This was lower than the average score of 273 for students in the nation.
- The average score for students in the District of Columbia in 2022 (260) was lower than their average score in 2019 (269) but higher than in 2003 (243).
- The percentage of students in the District of Columbia who performed at or above the NAEP Proficient level was 16 percent in 2022. This percentage was significantly different from that in 2019 (23 percent) and was higher than that in 2003 (6 percent).
- The percentage of students in the District of Columbia who performed at or above the NAEP Basic level was 46 percent in 2022. This percentage was lower than that in 2019 (55 percent) but higher than in 2003 (29 percent).
