FFY16 Academic Quality and Early Childhood Allocations Memo

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is pleased to provide the following FFY 2016 SOAR Academic Quality and Early Childhood grant allocations for LEAs.

Key Application Information and Deadlines

The SOAR Academic Quality and Early Childhood applications were released in the Enterprise Grants Management System (EGMS) on July 7, 2017. The allocations released in this document are final and should therefore be reflected in EGMS.

The pre-application webinar will be held on the following date and time:

Each eligible charter local educational agency (LEA) is strongly encouraged to ensure webinar attendance by at least one LEA representative. This representative should be someone who is employed directly by the charter LEA. The webinar will be posted on the OSSE website shortly after July 14, 2017.

All applications are due to OSSE by 3 p.m. on Aug. 4, 2017. OSSE will begin its review of applications as they are received and anticipates completing all reviews by Aug. 18, 2017. Funds allocated to LEAs who do not submit an application by the due date will be reallocated to eligible LEAs that met the deadline.

Eligibility Information

Academic Quality Grants to Public Charter Schools
Eligible applicants are DC charter LEAs that were open and serving students during the 2015-16 school year. Formula-based funding will be available to support projects designed to have a direct impact on student achievement, either school-wide or for specific subgroups of students. All projects must be research-based, supported by data, and tailored to meet the specific needs of the LEA. At least $5,799,575.17 will be awarded.

Early Childhood Grants to Public Charter Schools
Eligible applicants are DC charter LEAs that were open and serving 3- and 4-year-olds during the 2016-17 school year, meet Title I eligibility requirements, and have an overall student population that is at least 40 percent 3- and 4-year olds. Formula-based funding will be available to support projects that reinforce school readiness for 3- and 4-year olds, including the development of literacy and mathematics skills, with emphasis on supports to students to increase academic achievement. A total of $740,424.83 in formula grants will be awarded to:
