Example One-Week Infant Menus

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

These sample menus provide additional guidance on meeting the CACFP infant meal pattern requirements.

In the sample menu for infants ages four through seven months, notice that the foods served each day are the same with the exception of the fruit/vegetable at lunch. This is because infants in this age group should only be introduced to one new food every three to five days. This will help you and the infant's parents to identify food allergies or intolerances. It is best to coordinate with parents and only serve a food after the parent has already introduced it at home.

In the sample menu for infants ages eight through eleven months, there is greater variety. Infants in this age group should have already been introduced to many foods. Older infants of ten or eleven months may be able to eat some table foods. Keep in mind that breads and other grains may not be substituted for infant cereal at breakfast or lunch. In addition, cow's milk may not be introduced in place of formula or breast milk before the infant turns one year of age.
