On Monday, Oct. 7, OSSE launched a new Math Task Force, bringing together DC educators and educational leaders for a strategic effort aimed at rapidly accelerating math proficiency across the District. This task force, which met for the first time on Monday, Oct. 7, will meet for six sessions in total between October 2024 and June 2025 to develop a comprehensive set of recommendations so that all DC students achieve proficiency in math skills and concepts, setting them up for success in subsequent grade levels and life.
The ultimate goal of the task force is to provide every student in the District with the skills they need to achieve in math.
The Math Task Force will focus on several key areas:
- Curriculum Enhancement: Reviewing and updating math curricula to ensure alignment with best practices and standards.
- Professional Development: Providing ongoing training and support for educators to enhance their instructional practices.
- Student Support: Implementing targeted interventions and resources to support students who are struggling with math.
- Community Engagement: Partnering with families and community organizations to foster a supportive learning environment.
