Shared Roots was created to encourage District residents to grow food by allowing them to temporarily grow food in school gardens not being used over the summer.
The deadline to apply has passed. The application will open in February 2026 for next year. Applicants can expect to be matched with a gardening site by early May. Each year there are more members than available spots at sites. There is no guarantee that members will be matched with a site.
