Educator Wellness Trainings

Stress Management and Self-Care for Teachers and School Staff

OSSE, in collaboration with One Common Unity, is hosting a training on stress management and self-care, designed for educators and school teams. Participants will explore the causes and effects of stress, stress reduction strategies, such as aromatherapy and meditation, and self-care techniques.

The learning objectives of the training include:

  • Developing an understanding of how stress impacts your life and your students
  • Reflecting on personal self-care practices
  • Creating a self-care plan to cope with stress
  • Identifying opportunities to practice and encourage self-care among youth

The workshop is intended for educators, school administrators, teachers, social workers and counselors serving in public and public charter schools in the District of Columbia.

The training will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at OSSE, First Floor, Eleanor Holmes Norton II (Room 109).

You Cannot Pour From an Empty Cup: Focusing on Educator Wellness

OSSE invites all DC educators to participate in a professional development around self-care and teacher wellness. In this session, participants will:

  • Learn the definition of trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences in order to identify how trauma shows up in schools;
  • Articulate the impact of secondary trauma on teacher wellness;
  • Identify the importance of attachment theory and identifying personal triggers in relation to personal development; and
  • Develop their own self-care plan to combat burnout and increase physical and psychological/emotional wellness.

Participants will receive six OSSE professional learning units (PLUs).

This training will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at OSSE, Fifth Floor, Nannie Helen Burroughs (Room 523).
