Are you a District public or public charter school student who is heading to college next year and would like an academic boost to prepare? Bridge to College Success may be the program for you!
What is Bridge to College Success?
Bridge to College Success (B2CS) is a program designed to support newly graduated public and public charter school students from the District of Columbia as they transition to their postsecondary education. Our university partner is Trinity Washington University.
Who is eligible to participate in B2CS?
The ideal student for this program is college-bound, but perhaps not yet “college-ready.” These students need boosts in the academic areas of Math and English and guidance as they transition to a college environment. The test score ranges listed below are typical of B2CS students, but students who fall outside of these ranges are also welcome.
• SAT score of 480 or below (Reading/Writing), and/or 530 or below (Math)
• ACT score of 18 or below (English) and/or 22 or below (Math)
• PARCC score of 1 or 2 (in high school English or math)
What are the benefits of the program?
The primary benefit of this program is an academic boost in Math and English ahead of a student’s freshman year of college. However, students also discuss and learn how to advocate for themselves on campus, working through how to identify and find the services they may need. Bridge to College Success is always a Marion Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP) work site, so students who are accepted to MBSYEP are able to be paid while participating.
Additionally, all students who complete the program will receive one college credit from Trinity Washington University for a College Success course.
Can I have a job while participating in this program?
The typical program day will last from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. In order to participate, students should plan to attend all sessions. You may have a job outside of these hours.
Will this program happen in person?
Yes, this program will happen in person.
