OSSE, District of Columbia Poised to Submit NCLB Waiver Application

Washington, DC -- The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will hold two separate public meetings today as part of final preparations to submit the District of Columbia’s federal waiver request to the US Department of Education for flexibility regarding the implementation of No Child Left Behind (NCLB).

OSSE's RFP Process for Test Integrity Vendor Comes to an End

Washington, DC – The OSSE request for proposal to investigate classrooms for test integrity closed Tuesday, February 7, and resulted in multiple bids. OSSE will make a recommendation for vendor selection by Monday, February 13, 2012 to the Office of Contracts and Procurement for final determination.

District of Columbia Ranked First in Nation for K-12 Science Standards

Washington, dc – Yesterday the Washington Examiner published a story about our Science Standards ranking number one in the country, according to a study done by Thomas B. Fordham Institute entitled, "The State of State Science Standards." The article also pointed out our gains in 4th and 8th grade math, which is just the beginning of the improvements we are hoping to see over the next few years.

Washington, DC: To ensure the validity of 2011 District of Columbia Comprehensive Assessment System (DC CAS) results, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) today issued a Request for Proposal soliciting vendors to investigate and assess individual classrooms. The announcement comes as State Superintendent of Education Hosanna Mahaley introduces a series of recommendations and procedures aimed at improving testing protocols across the District and strengthening the validity and reliability of test investigations.
