WASHINGTON, DC – A consortium of District public charter schools will receive nearly $500,000 to develop rigorous models for measuring student growth through the 2012 Race to the Top Expanded Growth Assessment grant, an award announced today by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE).
WASHINGTON, DC – Mayor Vincent C. Gray announced today that, starting this fall, D.C. students will have the opportunity to receive need-based financial support from the city government while attending colleges and universities in the District. The grants come through the inaugural Mayor’s Scholars Fund, announced at Trinity Washington University today by Mayor Gray and representatives from the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE).

WASHINGTON, DC – District of Columbia adult learners were awarded graduate certificates, trade certifications and immediate job placement in positions in the hospitality and construction industries, part of two special ceremonies conducted under an innovative partnership with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), industry employers, academic institutions and nonprofit organizations to provide industry-specific training, professional skills development and career placement for District residents.
WASHINGTON, DC – District of Columbia State Superintendent of Education Hosanna Mahaley Jones today issued the following statement:
“On behalf of the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and students, parents, administrators, schools, community members, elected officials, stakeholders and residents throughout the District of Columbia, I extend heartfelt congratulations to Chancellor Kaya Henderson and District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) for receiving a 2012 Teacher Incentive Fund Grant Award from the U.S. Department of Education.
The purpose of this guidance is to provide Local education agencies (LEA) with instructions for properly implementing choice for District students in the animal dissection application within science instruction. Although schools and teachers are free to use dissection as a part of their lesson plan, LEAs may provide students who do not wish to dissect an animal for moral or religious reasons with an alternative lesson that accomplishes the same level of mastery.
