2023-24 School Year Attendance Reporting

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) collects and reports student attendance data for public schools in the District. For the first time in the 2023-24 school year, OSSE is publishing two Mid-Year Attendance Briefs in addition to an annual report. The data is validated following three data certifications by local education agencies (LEAs) in order to provide community members, school officials, and policymakers with data throughout the school year to respond to trends and changes in a timely manner so that the entire District can work together toward the goal of having every student attend school every day.

These data reflect rates of chronic absenteeism and chronic truancy.

Chronic absenteeism is defined as students being absent (excused or unexcused) for at least 10 percent of the days in which they are enrolled. Chronic truancy is defined as students accumulating at least 10 full-day, unexcused absences in a school year.
