Nonpublic Placement Information for LEAs

Resources
The District of Columbia Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) Toolkit Provides a comprehensive overview of LRE processes and best practices. This toolkit is a resource for District of Columbia (DC) local education agency (LEA) leaders, special education administrators, educators, related service providers, and other school staff to support the implementation of special education services and best practices to effectively serve all District students.

This publication has been developed pursuant to the guidelines of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA 2004) and the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations - Chapter 30 (DCMR) - and may be reprinted without permission.

On Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, OSSE hosted a least restrictive environment (LRE) webinar on serving students with disabilities. This goal of this training was to ensure that LEAs understand LRE requirements and provide strategies for maintaining students in their LRE. These slides are for training purposes only.

Policies

On Jan. 5, 2010 OSSE issued the “Polies and Procedures for Placement Review (PPPR), Revised.” The policy clarifies the roles and responsibilities of LEA that is considering a change in placement for a child with a disability to a more restrictive environment outside the LEA. OSSE’s placement review guidance provides additional information.
