2022-23 Attendance and Distance Learning Guidance

Friday, July 29, 2022

On July 20, 2022, the State Board of Education approved OSSE’s planned revisions to Chapter 21 of Title 5-A of the District of Columbia’s Municipal Regulations governing Compulsory Education and School Attendance. The most significant changes include:

  • Changing the definition of “present” for purposes of attendance from 80 percent to 60 percent of the instructional day;
  • Shifting mandatory referrals to student support teams from five unexcused absences to five full-day unexcused absences; and
  • Establishing requirements for measuring presence and absence for purposes of attendance in routine and situational distance learning.
